There are several small but effective competitive grant opportunities available to faculty for support of professional development and curricular enhancement activities.  See the URL listed for each of the programs for further information on how to apply.

Proposals for the Research, Professional, and Teaching Development Grants generally are due at the end of the spring semester.  Undergraduate research stipends that are not linked to a Research of Professional Development Grant may be requested at any time by using the on-line application form.

UNIVERSITY COLLEGE

Research Development Grant (RDG):

The Research Development Grant (RDG) program is a source of financial support for the research and scholarly activities of University College faculty members. It is intended to foster new research and scholarly activities rather than to sustain established research programs.

Professional Development Grant (PDG):

The Professional Development Grant (PDG) program is a source of financial support for the developmental activities of non tenure-system faculty in the University College. It is intended to support faculty in their efforts to stay current in their discipline.

Teaching Development Grant (TDG):

The Teaching Development Grant (TDG) is designed to provide a source of financial support for the instructional activities of full-time faculty members in the Commonwealth College (CWC).  It is intended to improve instruction and enhance the quality of teaching and learning.

Undergraduate Research Stipend:

One pedagogical goal of the University College is to foster undergraduate research. The central aim of this program is to support student research by encouraging faculty members to design undergraduate research projects. Most proposals are envisioned as extensions of a faculty member's Research or Professional Development Grant (RDG or PDG) work, but separate student projects also may be proposed by the faculty member. Students receiving an undergraduate research stipend must be supervised and evaluated by the faculty member who submits the proposal.

UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION & INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

Undergraduate Research Travel Grants (URTG):

These grants are provided through the Office of Undergraduate Education in concert with the colleges and academic departments and the Schreyer Honors College (when applicable), to support travel to nationally significant conferences where students have been invited/accepted to present the results of their research.

Short Course Travel Funds (SCTF):

This fund is provided through International Programs.  The purpose of these funds is to support faculty who wish to include international travel as one component in a course.  Awards may be up to 000, and the funds may be used for both undergraduate and graduate student courses in any discipline.

Faculty Travel Funds (FTF):

This fund is provided through International Programs.  The purpose of these funds is to support faculty initiatives to internationalize courses.  The fund supports up to 000 for faculty traveling abroad, on a short term visit (1-4 weeks), who want to expand their teaching to include international materials by learning more about specific practices or places that require a visit to particular locations; who want to collect materials to be used in classes that could only be gathered by visiting the site; who want to make contacts or set up connections that will be used in future teaching; or, who have other creative ideas that require travel abroad to better internationalize the curriculum.
